Moment of Celebration

My Dear CATS,

It has been a year of celebrations for CATS. We have had five weddings and a baby.. MEOW :)

CAT Rahat opened the account in January itself when he married Puneet. CAT Uday quietly brought home Crystal in June. CAT Sandeep got married to his sweetheart Surbhi in September. The weddings were interspersed with the birth of our first CATs kitten on Diwali eve in October. Then came the turn of CAT Anu to marry Amit in November. And finally, I have the honour of announcing to you all that brother of our ferocious CAT Gopika, CAT Vasu, has brought home his childhood sweetheart Swapnil, affectionately called Deepa.

CAT Vasu tied the knot on 09th Dec'09...

Photo Gallery - 06th CATS Blood Donation Camp

Since we had not had a blood donation camp since February,
CATS were way too eager to shed some blood for a good cause.
CAT Sandeep opened the account a day in advance as he was
busy on the day of our camp. CAT Vishal also came earlier
as he was tied up with official duties on 10th Dec as well.

On the morning of 10th of Dec'09 I had not even left my home
that I started getting calls from the blood bank about
the donors who had already reached and donated .

These surely were extremely encouraging and heart warming signs :)

We had barely had the chance to set shop on the morning of 10th of Dec'09
for our 06th Blood Donation Camp, that we had some surprise visitors.

Mrs Kanta Swaroop Krishen (Rotary Blood Bank) and
Mrs Mehra (wife of Advisor to the Administrator, Chandigarh)
came to encourage the blood donors and were most surprised
to see the spirited energy bubbling from the donors.

It was sight to behold for our visitors :)

It was heart warming to see CAT Preeti by accompanied by
her husband CAT Naveen. Though he himself could not donate on
medical grounds but he sure ensured to be part of the CATS tradition...

Wish many more would follow the path set by our CAT Jasmine & CAT Jasmeet.

CAT Arti comes only for two activities with CATS.
First if there is a food related activity and second if there is a blood donation camp.

She is as regular in our camps, as the bananas and milk
served in the refreshments at the blood bank post bleeding!

Team of Rotarians came in strength to form another cheer brigade
for the bleeding CATS. It was nice to see the little contribution which
CATS make in their Heartline Project, being so whole heartedly
appreciated by the Rotarians.

CAT Anu C led the brigade from SDI,
who were are active partners in this blood donation camp.

There were CATTY cheers all around :)

Qatra Qatra Boond Se Saagar Banta Hai....
aur yeh qatre kitne khush hain :)

Even the lunch hour was bustling with donors..

Blood Bank staf was kept busy by all our donors in writing out
the certificates and preparing the gift packs...

SDI gang making merry after donating blood in the 'Refreshment Room'

and don't even ask the story behind the donation of CAT Hemant
and myself!

CAT Hemant was told that he must drink lots of water as his
pulse was high or he would be deferred. Since this was his
5th donation and he wanted to claim his 'Special Key Ring'
from CATS, he was determined that he would do
anything to donate. As he was busy making trips to the loo
after drinking gallons of water, I was told that my BP was low
and hence may be deferred.

So I consumed coffee and made a couple of trips upstairs using
the staircase. On my second attempt, my BP became normal but
now my pulse became high! As much as we could not get it right,
both of us tried every remedy under the sun to successfully
donate blood along with the rest of our CATS!

Donors kept everyone busy whilst this drama was happening to CAT Hemant and I.

Despite his packed schedule, CAT Ashish A came to donate blood
for the 6th time... I sure hope many more take cue from
his dedication towards blood donation :)

It was good to catch up with our rarely seen CATS coming forward to donate blood too :)

Meet our first time donor CAT Minnie, who was accompanied
by her brother and his beautiful newly wedded wife Reshma :)

Hats off to this young family CATS...
Infact.. This family deserves a standing ovation!

CAT Onkar, his wife, daughter Guneet accompanied their
18yr old son Navpreet for his first blood donation.
If this sense of responsibility is not enough, all of them
together signed the Eye Donation Form too and pledged their eyes
after death to light up lives of 8 people who can not see.

Could there be a better way to celebrate life CATS?

One merry gang of SDIans after donating blood :)

Yet another first time blood donor.. Girls did lead the way all day..
I had to take up the cases of many deferred cases with the Doctors
since every single girl was determined to join the
previledged queue of CATS Blood Donors

CAT Jyotika was deferred for a few days but went back to
donate blood for the first time as well...

Three MEOWS for our spirited felines :)

CAT Paramjeet brought in 6 friends to donate. Rajiv came from office,
Jagbandhu and Aman came before going to office, Raj came with his
little son who was still in uniform.

Wish there were many more Paramjeets around to take this blood donation drive forward....

the ones who missed the boat on 10th, came forward on 11th Dec
to make their contribution for such a noble cause...

It was good to see that in this camp, we had more willing donors than reluctant ones coming forward.. May the goodluck from this camp stay FOREVER!

A 'probable' CAT Sumeer who has promised to bring in atleast
5 donors for each of our next camps, provided he gets a week's advance notice :)

Overall, it was a highly successful camp with 79 donations and despite 10 deferrals. 60 donors came from SDI whilst the rest from CATS and their friends.

The icing on the cake was that 30 pairs of eyes were also pledged as per records held by CATS. It was humbling to see families coming forward to pledge their eyes collectively.

With this, I bow to each one of you for making this camp an absolute success and I sure look forward to your continuous support in all of our future endeavours too.

(Brinder and CAT Hemant deserve a special mention for keeping the records in order throughout the day for me.)

Moment of Celebration

My Dear CATS,

With great joy I hereby share the news of the wedding of our dear CAT Anu A with Amit from Panchkula. She tied the knot on 29th of Nov'09, i.e. the eve we came back from our Organic Farm Picnic Funday. Since Anu's sister had held up her husband in order to earn a sizeable booty for the 'Ribbon Ceremony', I went to meet CAT Anu to give her the BEST WISHES on behalf of the CATS.

I had to rub my eyes when I entered the room where CAT Anu was chatting with her classmates. She looked absolutely resplendent in her wedding attire. This CAT really does no justice to the good looks she has been bestowed with!

Wishing both CAT Anu A a very happy married life ahead, we also take this opportunity to welcome a new CAT into the pack; her husband Amit :)

CAT Amanat and CAT Aman buys making sustenance packs for the CATS..

To keep the cost down for you, we do everything by ourselves,
right from your name badges, sustenance packs, equipment for games etc.
If you call at the eleventh hour to be included for the
activity the following morning, that means kids have to
run to the shops to get sustenance pack items late into the night.

I hope now you understand why last-minute calls cause
such chaos at the organisational end of each activity!

Lazy Sunday afternoon CATS reached Sattva Farm of CAT Gaurav in Landran.

The farm was all set to greet the CATS.. MEOW :)

Registration and 'naam-karan' ritual as usual!

Whilst I was busy in ensuring everything is in place and
that there's a place for everything planned for the day ahead,
our 'Juice Wala' got buys in peeling kinnows to prepare
our welcome drink at the farm - Fresh Kinnow Juice :)

Fresh juice on a warm winter afternoon was indeed a Great Welcome :)

Freshly harvested veggies being scrubbed clean in the meantime
by the farm helpers... These were all consumed either raw
by CATS or were used to prepare the sumptuous feast for CATS at the farm!

Yound and old could not contain their excitement and
started exploring various nooks and crannies even before
the guided tour had begun...

CAT Krishan went a step ahead and chomped off a whole mooli
whilst waiting for the tour to begin!

and just when I had gathered my flock together to begin the tour,
everyone decided to buy the kinnows to take home with them ;-)

FINALLY, the tour begins!!

CAT Gaurav explined how and why he himself got involved
with organic farming, what it means by 'organic',
how he learnt the tricks of the trade, the mistakes he made
and the benefits of organic food..

Do you know what this is? Its 'Jeev Amrit'.
Now tell me what is bought at Rs.1.50/- a litre to be added to this can ;-)

A makeshift scare crow!!

A quadruplet carrot ;-)

CAT Puneet could not contain herself and polished off
a cauliflower head with little CAT Anna along the way :)

Why are potatoes grown in a ridge rather than flat bed?
Can you tell the difference between a green and a white leek?

Any CAT who answered correctly, was given a slip which mentioned
the prize. For example, CAT AP won a bunch of HALDI (turmeric).
Do you know that potatoes grow in bunches?
CAT Monica holding up a tender baby potatoe after
gently harvesting one plant

Necessity is the mother of invention ;-)
Another make shift scarecrow to scare the rabbits away at night!

The plastic bag makes scary sounds when the wind blows and
the white colour of the bag keeps it visible for the rabbits even in the dark..

Hozzaaatttt NOW!

ahem... and how can we forget the basic neccessites of living...
a makeshift dry toilet at the farm ;-)

Such is the bane of urban lives we lead that even elderly CATS
who had spent a considerable time in the fields earlier in their lives,
had trouble recognising vegetable pods from pulses pods.

CAT Tanbir in the meantime started putting the raw material
together for the feast to be cooked...

There was LOADS TO DO as we were to cook everything
from scratch and that too without any proper kitchen...
everything was makeshift and CATS being CATS,
had planned for a traditional European Feast!!!

We do know how to shoot ourselves in the foot... meow!!

Go on.. Tell me which plant is this?
Is this raddish or is peas or lady finger or cereal?

The Prized Mooli for CAT Tony ;-)

and whilst rest of the CATS trotted further into the field
for sowing the seeds, transplanting the saplings and
harvesting the vegetables to gain first hand experience of working in a farm...
some of us got involved with chopping, peeling and dressing the veggies for the evening..

We used this tawa to produce 'grilled' veggies and chicken
as well as 'baking' mouth watering pizzas!!

CAT Rajive at work with CAT Ashish A while CAT Ravinder S seems to be inspecting ;-)

CAT Tanbir, our Head Chef beautifully choreographed the cooking
with active participation from the two deft Cooks;
CAT Ashish A and CAT Paramjeet...

With such ferocious activity taking place feets away,
I am amazed how could these two simply sit and talk about the weather!

At 5pm it was time to mingle our 'Pind Diyaan Mutiyaraan'.
As CAT Puneet put it, each of the 20 sexy sirens
colourfully dressed to kill. CATS excitedly trooped in to be
personally introduced to each mutiyaar individually
by Mr Sarkaria is the 'Friend, Philosopher and Guide'
to each one of them. Not only could you admire them from
a distance, CATS were encouraged to touch them, hug them,
caress them, even sit in their lap if one wished.

CATS could pick anyone from a Chevrolet, a Mustang amongst
20 odd Vintage Beauties lined up in our village farm!

After a round of lip smacking garden fresh peanut salad
and mouth watering minestrone soup, CATS took a little break
from eating and indulged in a game of Helium Sticks

The young ones got into two teams consecutively to make two scare crows..

All this while, Chef and Cooks were busy getting the
Cheese Pasta Sauce and Arrabiata sauce ready for dinner... yummy :)

Pasta shells are ready too... lovely :P

Production line for getting the pizzas dressed..
Hats off to the production workers CAT Rachna, CAT Neerja R and
CAT Manpreet in ensuring there was not a spare moment
without a piping hot pizza on the table for the greedy CATS!

and do these little kittens care less about anything?!!!

on second thoughts, these kittens had actually earned their dinner too ;-)

Two HANDSOME Scarecrows are ready for The Sattva Farm,
courtsey our CAT Amanat, CAT Aman, CAT Ansh, CAT Rattan,
CAT Siddarth and CAT Hridey

Finally, it was time to just sit and relax.. enjoy the bonfire in the warm company of CATS.

Another day well spent dare I say :)
